Doba damages
Ranchi: Raghubar Das-led state government on Wednesday announced a compensation of Rs 50,000 for the families of each of the victims, drowned in dobas (farm ponds).
BJP MLA Biranchi Narayan raised the matter, especially drowning of children in rural areas, in the state Assembly on Wednesday. Rural development minister Neelkanth Singh Munda said that directives had been issued to the deputy commissioners, block development commissioners and other concerned officials to ensure safety and preventive measures to avoid deaths. However, Congress MLA from Jamtara Irfan Ansari raised concern about the project itself and demanded Rs 5 lakh compensation.
Bribe cuffs
Deoghar: The anti-corruption sleuths on Wednesday caught red-handed labour department head clerk Jyoti Prakash Lal while accepting Rs 40,000 bribe. Prime accused district labour superintendent-cum-skill development officer Rahul Kumar, however, managed to escape.
I-Day vigil
Ranchi: Home department additional chief secretary N.N. Pandey on Wednesday directed the officials to ensure surveillance through drone and CCTV cameras on Independence Day. The municipal bodies were asked to take care of cleanliness during the review of August 15 preparations. Parade rehearsals in Ranchi will begin on August 8 and in Dumka on August 5.

Ranchi: Around 27,000 people have visited the seven Tourist Information Centres, set up by the state tourism department at Shravani Mela, Deoghar, so far. The tourists primarily availed information about spot hotel bookings, bus services, different destinations and route map.

Ranchi: State IPRD department on Wednesday began inviting applications from interested parties for preparation and designing of jhanki (tableau) for next year's Republic Day programme in Delhi. the department have asked agencies to submit their ideas and concept latest by August 11.

Rape cuffs
Jamshedpur: A 26-year-old man was arrested for allegedly raping a 30-year-old woman on the campus of a Mango-based college in Azadnagar on Tuesday.
The woman in her FIR against one Irfan Khan said she boarded an auto from Mango. On the way the driver called up Irfan and his sister. Then they took the woman to the campus where Irfan raped her. Azadnagar OC Anjani Kumar Singh said, "The matter appears to be fishy but still we are acting on the complaint." Police have been trying to nab the driver and the other woman.
Fatal mishap
Jamshedpur: A 56-year-old man, who was seriously injured in a road mishap on Hata-Tata Road near Potka, 20km from Jamshedpur, on Tuesday night, succumbed to his injuries at MGM hospital on Wednesday. Jagannath Sardar, who was a resident of Roradih village in Potka, was returning home from Jamshedpur on his bike when a speeding vehicle hit him.
Theft arrest
Jamshedpur: One Abdul Sami (35) was arrested for allegedly trying to commit theft in a house at Zakirnagar in Mango on Wednesday. House owner Nausad Alam nabbed Sami and handed him over to police. Police have started investigation.
Elocution
Jamshedpur: The Society for Promotion of Professional Excellence organised 8th Hindi Elocution Competition at the Centre for Excellence in Bistupur on Wednesday for project and government school students. Around 80 students from took part in the contest. The participants were judged by a panel comprising four judges.
Convocation
Jamshedpur: The convocation of four-year diploma course in tool and die making conducted by Gamharia-based Indo Danish Tool Room will be held on Thursday. Kolhan DIG Shambhu Sharma will be the chief guest on the occasion. He will give away the certificates to the candidates.

Pandey on Wednesday, demanding re-examination of paper VII, which they claimed, were out of syllabus and hence failed. NSUI secretary Indrajeet Singh said the questions were so tough that students submitted blank answer sheets.

Ranchi: Final-year students of Nirmala College and NSUI members gheraoed the chamber of Ranchi University vice chancellor R.K. Pandey on Wednesday, demanding re-examination of paper VII, which they claimed, were out of syllabus and hence failed.
NSUI secretary Indrajeet Singh said the questions were so tough that students submitted blank answer sheets. The final-year exams were held in April and results declared in May.
Murder cuffs
Ranchi: Three men were arrested on Wednesday by Tupudana police for allegedly killing one Ram Munda (35) last week. Vipin Munda, Vishweswar Munda and Soma Munda, aged between 30 and 35 years, killed Ram, a farmer, over some land dispute. Police said Ram had criminal history and had gone to jail in the past.
Water order
Ranchi: Jharkhand High Court on Wednesday directed the state government to ensure supply of water through pipes, which have already been laid across the city, within 10 days. The court was hearing a PIL on erratic supply of water in the capital.
Special camps
Ranchi: Ranchi district administration will hold special camps at various places across the district to facilitate certification of physically challenged people from July 29 onwards. The exercise is expected to continue till third week of August.
Foundation
Ranchi: Mayor Asha Lakra laid foundation stone for construction of houses under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana at Pipra Toli in Ward 37, Ranchi, on Wednesday. Under the scheme, the central government has provided funds to local urban bodies for construction of affordable houses for residents belonging to low-income groups.
JAC exams
Ranchi: Supplementary exams of students of Classes X and XII of schools affiliated to of Jharkhand Academic Council (JAC) started fromWednesday. It will continue till August 5. Around 25, 000 students are appearing.
Auto fare
Bokaro: Auto-rickshaw drivers, plying between Chas and Sector IX of Bokaro steel city, decided to withdraw the fare hike on Wednesday after residents protested against it. The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by Chas SDO Shashi Ranjan. The drivers also decided not to play lewd songs on loudspeakers.
