Train services

Jamshedpur: Train services between Barbil and Jamda railway stations under Chakradharpur division in West Singhbhum district was disrupted for around two hours from 12.30pm on Thursday due to snapping of overhead electrical wires following a mishap involving a goods train and a truck at a level crossing.

Movement of several trains including the Howrah-Barbil Janshatabdi Express was affected.

Goods gutted

Jamshedpur: Goods worth Rs 4 lakh were gutted after a shop-cum-godown at Chakulia market in Ghatshila sub-division caught fire early on Thursday morning. Police said the fire was triggered by a short circuit. Owner Ranjan Singh said the fire was soon brought under control with the help of neighbours.

Rural jobs

Jamshedpur: Rozgar sevaks and block programme officers for MGNREGS in East Singhbum district will be appointed on March 29. This was decided in a review meeting on development works under the national scheme by deputy development commissioner Binod Kumar at district collectorate on Thursday.

Guns seized

Jamshedpur: Police and CRPF recovered two countrymade guns and a pistol, apparently hidden by Maoists, from Makuli village in Ghatshila on the borders of Bengal late on Wednesday evening. SSP Anoop T. Mathew said they had information that a squad of rebel leader Rahul was at the village.

Girl stabbed

Ranchi: A 22-year-old youth stabbed a girl, his college junior, with a kitchen knife in her face and stomach in Jagannathpur, around 20km from Ranchi, on Thursday allegedly after she rejected his advances. While local people nabbed Asgar Ansari, a student of St Columbus College, Hazaribagh, and handed him over to police, the girl was rushed to Guru Nanak Research Hospital, where her condition is said to be stable.

Theft

Ranchi: One Gunjan Rugnta was robbed of her purse containing Rs 8,000 and phone in New Delhi-Ranchi Rajdhani Express that arrived here on Thursday. She was travelling in AC-III coach and said the theft took place when she was sleeping.

Lover stabs girl

A youth stabbed a girl in the face and stomach in Jagannathpur, around 20km from the heart of the city, on Thursday allegedly after she rejected his love.

Asgar Ansari (22), a student of St Columbus College-Hazaribagh, attacked the girl, his junior on the campus, with a kitchen knife on Latma Road, causing serious injuries. While local people nabbed Ansari and handed him over to police, the girl was rushed to Guru Nanak Research Hospital, where her condition is said to be stable. Police said Ansari had come from Bokaro after the girl, a resident of Ichak, Hazaribagh, came to stay with her uncle in Ranchi.

Blockade

Around 1,000 villagers blocked NH-33 in Namkum, Ranchi, on Thursday, demanding compensation for crop loss due to hailstorm in October and November last year. The blockade was removed after Namkum BDO Gauri Shanker Sharma assured payment of compensation soon.

Theft in train

One Gunjan Rugnta was robbed of her purse containing Rs 8,000 and phone in Rajdhani Express that arrived in Ranchi from New Delhi on Thursday morning.

She was travelling in AC-III coach and said the thieves might have taken away her purse when she was sleeping. She had lodged a complaint with Ranchi GRP.

Trophy

Class XI student of DPS, Ranchi, Tushar Rishi, has won the runner-up trophy in the Cryptic Crossword Contest, 2016, held in Calcutta on March 13. Fifteen schools from Calcutta and Jharkhand took part in the contest.

Inspection

State finance secretary Amit Khare paid a surprise visit to Ranchi Treasury on Thursday. He directed the treasury officials to comply with executive orders, maintain accountability and responsibility while withdrawing funds from the treasury.

Bribe cuffs

Anti corruption bureau arrested Sunil Kumar Pramanik, bench clerk of Ranchi SDO court, after he demanded a bribe of Rs 500 from a complainant named Shweta Mishra. He demanded the amount from Mishra to issue a certified copy of a court document to her.

3 kids drown

Daltonganj: The bodies of three children, who went missing on Wednesday, were fished out of a well near their home at Ghutua in Palamau district on Thursday.

Shravan Bhuiyan (10), his sister Punam Kumari (8) and cousin Rahul Kumar (8) were last seen playing outside their house.

Dhullu out

Dhanbad: Baghmara MLA Dhullu Mahto was on Thursday released from Dhanbad divisional jail after he was granted bail by Jharkhand High Court on Wednesday in an old case of obstructing government work. He had surrendered on Tuesday.
