Beaten to death

A 45-year-old man was beaten to death by two of his cousins over a land dispute at Dumra village under Kandra police station area in Seraikela-Kharsawan district, 20km from Jamshedpur, on Tuesday morning.

Victim Sahdev Mondal, a resident of Dumra, was attacked by bricks by Lakhinder Mondal and Prakash Mondal, residents of the same village. He died on the spot.

Rebel scare

A squad of armed CPI(Maoist) rebels picked up two villagers from Madadaha village in Patamda police station area, some 50km from Jamshedpur, on Tuesday morning, only to release them after two hours. They assaulted the villagers at a forest. Patamda OC Mahendra Prasad said the rebels had tried to persuade them to join their outfit.

Booze loot

Liquor worth over Rs 1 lakh was looted by unknown men who broke open a shop at Parsudih market in the small hours of Tuesday. Police have registered a case of break-in against unknown men.

Affiliation

Tarapore School in Agrico has been granted affiliation from the Council of Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) for starting plus two classes. The plus two classes will begin from the fresh academic session in April, 2016.

Water project

The construction work for the filter plant of the Rs 237-crore Bagbera drinking water project began on Tuesday at Ranidih panchayat. The mega project, which will provide drinking water to parched Bagbera and Govindpur localities, is expected to complete in two years.

Pat for topper

Alex Prabhat Bara, a student of St Xavier's School, Ranchi, has been given the national merit award of Rs 60,000 under Dr Ambedkar National Merit Award scheme for securing the first position in Class X, 2015 exams, conducted by CISCE.

The award was conferred upon him in New Delhi a few days ago, his school said on Tuesday.

Job letters

State health minister Ramchandra Chandravanshi handed over appointment letters to 338 people who would serve as grade A nurses, lab technicians and pharmacists at various state hospitals and health hubs in Ranchi on Tuesday.

Rare disease

One Nitu Kumari (8), resident of Bijupara in Ranchi, was admitted to RIMS on Monday with an eye ailment because of which tiny stony particles were coming out of her eyes. Dr V.B. Sinha said that it was not an eye ailment and required further examination. "We will decide on the next step after 15 days," he said.

State tourism department on Tuesday announced 10 per cent discount on booking at hotels run by it across the state.

Inauguration

State welfare minister Louise Marandi and food and civil supplies minister Saryu Roy inaugurated Poorest Areas Civil Society (PACS) programme in Ranchi on Tuesday. The programme is aimed at uplifting the lives of people in rural areas.

RMC has received Rs 10 lakh house holding tax from 12 people who had not paid for the last two years.

Eviction drive

Dhanbad: Over 200 makeshift shops were removed from a NH-32 stretch between Court More and Saraidhela during an anti-encroachment drive in the coal town on Tuesday.

The drive, which was led by SDO Mahesh Kumar Santhalia with the help of district police, continued for over four hours. DSP D.N. Banka said no untoward incident took place as the shop owners did not put up any resistance.

Life term

Dhanbad: One Mochua Marandi, alias Mochu, was awarded life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 5,000 by the court of the additional district judge on Tuesday in a murder case. A resident of Tundi, Marandi had attacked neighbour Bira Murmu with a bamboo stick.

Train plea

Bokaro: Jharkhand Bengali Association on Tuesday wrote a letter to railway minister Suresh Prabhu, requesting a stoppage at Gomia for Kolkata-Ahmedabad Express and Kolkata-Ajmer Express.
