Cuttack, March 15: Cases were registered against author and publisher of Hazarat Muhammad for alleged inaccuracies in the book and a photo depicting the prophet on its cover.

The publisher and author face charges of “deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings” of a community, which could lead to imprisonment of up to three years.

The book was written by Rabindra Prasad Panda (71) and printed by Pitambar Mishra’s Vidya Puri. The police traced the author to Salt Lake in Calcutta and brought him to Cuttack on Friday. He was arrested later. The publisher is still absconding, police said.

Police said cases were filed on the basis of a complaint lodged at Lalbag police station.

“The cases were registered under Section 295(a) of the Indian Penal Code,” said officer-in-charge K.R. Swamy.
