Ranchi, May 29: After giving the nation one of its toppers in CBSE Class XII examinations, Bokaro has kept its commitment in the field of steel making too by becoming a major contributor in the net profit earned by the Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) in the fiscal 2005-06.
The SAIL achieved a net profit of Rs 4,013 crore this year, its second highest in 33 years, while Bokaro Steel Plant (BSP) posted a record profit of Rs 2,056 crore.
While the SAIL registered its highest-ever saleable steel production of over 12 million tonnes, BSP?s contribution has been 3.74 million tonnes.
?In fact, Bokaro Steel set new records in all major techno-economic areas, such as coke rate, refractory consumption, energy consumption, water consumption, yield and labour productivity,? said a BSP spokesperson.
The plant also developed or stabilised new products for the navy, LPG, automobile sector, white goods, cycle and electrical industries. Many of these innovations were the results of the Research and Development Centre for Iron and Steel, the research wing and corporate unit of SAIL.
Bokaro Steel has also become the first plant in SAIL to achieve full certification for the mills area and stage-1 certification for the entire production stream, the spokesperson said.
