Bokaro, July 4: Aditya Ranjan had everything going for him - an engineering degree from BIT-Mesra, a great job at Oracle and a fat salary.
But the 24-year-old from Chas subdivision in Bokaro district always nurtured a bigger ambition, that of cracking the prestigious civil services examination and becoming an IAS officer one day.
That dream got fulfilled when the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) examination results were announced today and Aditya secured 99th rank.
This was his third attempt.
"I had secured 88 per cent in CBSE Class X but the score came down to 80 per cent in Class XII. I failed to get into IIT and worked hard to secure a berth in BIT-Mesra from where I passed out in 2009. But I listened to my elder brother, Rakesh Kumar, an orthopaedic surgeon, who asked me in 2012 to quit my job and take the IAS exam," the son of a small businessman of Chas and former student of Guru Govind Singh Public School told The Telegraph over phone from Delhi.
Aditya, in his first attempt, could not crack the test. "Last year, I again tried but my rank made me eligible for Indian Revenue Service. I wanted IAS and made another attempt this time," Ranjan said.
So, any preference of state for posting? Why should I prefer any developed state? I took birth in unified Bihar and now live in Jharkhand. Asked who is his idol apart from his elder brother, he said Mahatma Gandhi as his philosophy of non-violence was still relevant in present times.
Sharing his success mantra, the engineer said: "I believe in hard work, sincerity and faith in one self. There is no short cut for clearing to the UPSC and there is no substitute for hard labor stated Ranjan.
