Jamshedpur, Jan. 13: Six blackbucks will shortly find their way to Alipore Zoo in Calcutta from Tata Steel Zoological Park.
Preparation for sending these animals is on and the process is likely to get through anytime in February.
Despite sending away blackbucks to Calcutta, the enclosure of the animal will not lose its shine as it will be left with 34 of its species.
M.S. Jain, the director of the zoo, said the blackbucks which will soon be shifted has been kept in an enclosure to make them accustomed to new surrounding.
M.S. Jain, director of the zoo, told The Telegraph, “As the blackbucks are very sensitive, we have to take special care of them to get them transported and accommodate to a newer place.
“We have to ensure that the change of place does not affect them.”
Two male and four female black bucks will be shifted.
“Of course they got love and proper care here. As a result of which the blackbuck’s population over here today is 40, which is a bit big number in view of the existing accommodating facility,” said Jain.
He said the exchange of animals would not take place before February as Calcutta authorities are yet to take permission from the Central Zoo Authorities.
Jain said the process is a part of an animal exchange programme.
“We will bring in two pairs of barking deer from there,” the senior zoo official said.
Earlier in 2004, the zoo has given four black bucks to Ranchi zoo in an animal exchange programme.
In exchange the zoo brought three hyenas to the Tata Zoological Park.
