Ranchi: Dean of Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) Dr R.K. Srivastava on Tuesday took additional charge as the acting director of the state-run hospital in Bariatu after director Dr B.L. Sherwal resigned from the post.
Sherwal, who had assumed office in August 2015 and quit a year before completion of his tenure, will join Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute and Research Centre, New Delhi, as its director. "I have gained a lot of experience," he added.
Dr Srivastava, an alumnus of RIMS, has been serving the hospital since 1984. "This is the 12th time in two years that I have taken charge as acting director. I must have worked more than 90 days as the RIMS director," Srivastava, who is also head of pathology and in-charge RIMS blood bank, said.
The government is, meanwhile, in the process of appointing a regular director.
"Applications for the post of RIMS director have been invited. The last date for filing the same was October 9, but it has been extended till October 20. So far, 24 candidates have shown interest. Dr Srivastava is also an applicant," a health department official said.
