Ranchi, March 6: A woman standing up for her jailed husband, an MLA nursing her own constituency and that of an MP and a doting mother who makes sure her three-year-old attends pre-school — Geeta Koda, wife of tainted former chief minister Madhu Koda, is versatility personified.
“I am not fed up with my struggle. Had it been so, I would not have fought back,” Geeta, who raised pertinent questions during the ongoing budget session of the Assembly, said.
Conceding that “sari cheezein ast-byast hai (not everything is in order)”, the 27-year-old Jagannathpur MLA said she was sanguine that “Sir (read Koda)” could have done no wrong. “There is not an iota of truth in the charges made by different investigating agencies,” she told The Telegraph and added: “Sir will come out clean. I have full faith in the judiciary.”
Geeta said one of her biggest strengths was the faith people had in them. “They don’t ask me uncomfortable questions on Sir facing corruption charges. I am not an MLA for my electorate, but a beti (daughter) or bahu (daughter-in-law),” she said.
A graduate in geography, she revealed that she was still a political novice when it came to tricky questions.
Were you aware that Madhu Koda was doing wrong things in association with his close aides, including Binod Sinha? “I did not know anything, as I never interfered with (his) political and official matters,” she said.
But are you angry with people like Sinha who played a key role in the alleged scam? “Not at all. Why should I be when the investigating agency has not been able to find anything concrete against him (Koda)? Moreover, I did not know Vinod Sinha,” Geeta said, echoing Koda. “He (Koda) always cared for others. He is still concerned for the electorate of his constituency. He also guides me,” the devoted wife went on the defensive.
Does your daughter Darshani ask for her father? “She is very attached to her father, but is too young to ask questions,” Geeta pointed out.
Political bigwigs, who were once close to “chief minister Kodaji”, do not ring up to console her or help her out, she revealed. “Those who gained from him have now deserted him. But I still have the support of near and dear ones,” she added.
On her political inclinations, the MLA made it clear that she was with the Congress. “Kodaji as an MP had extended support to the Congress. The party too supported my husband. In the Assembly, the Congress backed me on the issue of shifting the proposed medical college from Chaibasa (Koda’s turf) to Kharsawan (chief minister and BJP leader Arjun Munda’s seat),” she said.
Geeta also pointed out that development projects initiated by Koda were either pending or going slow. “For instance, he had cleared proposals for a medical college, an engineering college, a polytechnic cradle and several road projects. Everything has been put in the slow mode.”
She added: “I like to concentrate more on the constituencies — Jagannathpur and Chaibasa. He (Koda) has entrusted me with great responsibilities. I am trying to live up to his expectations.”
On extravagance during the Lok Sabha polls, Geeta said Koda had submitted necessary documents to the Election Commission. If the poll panel declares his election null and void, will she contest? “I have not given it any thought,” she signed off.
