Ranchi, Dec. 19: She is just another face in the national squad until she holds a hockey stick. Displaying brilliant stick work and skill on the ground, she grabs the crowd?s attention.
Neha Singh, granddaughter of hockey legend Dhyanchand, was part of the winning Western Railway team. Switching between mid-field and the forward position, Neha displayed some brilliant moves in the matches played here.
Dhyanchand has always been a guiding light in her hockey career, which started in 1993. ?I?ve not seen my grandfather play but I have been hearing about his game since my childhood. My uncle, Ashok Kumar, who was also been an Olympian, has guided me at every step .?
Stories of Dhyanchand dribbling the ball on railway tracks to improve his skills had inspired her to do the same. ?I never succeeded in doing that ,? said Neha.
Being the granddaughter of a hockey legend is a tough task as expectations are high. ?Being associated with a legend, becomes tough. If you play badly, people always point it out. There is tremendous pressure,? she says.
