Ranchi, May 20: The CBI today said it would not give a long rope to JMM legislator Sita Soren, who was absent at her Ranchi residence when the agency conducted raids on Friday as part of its probe into allegations of horse-trading in the countermanded Rajya Sabha poll of March 30.

“We have been informally told that the widowed daughter-in-law of JMM chief Shibu Soren is busy at a function to be held in Dumka tomorrow to mark the death anniversary of her husband Durga Soren. So, we will wait for two more days,” said a senior CBI officer, adding she had not got in touch with them.

“If she fails to turn up, we will unlock her official premises in the presence of a magistrate and conduct the search operation to take ahead our investigations into charges of horse-trading in the March 30 Rajya Sabha elections,” the officer pointed out.

The CBI had sealed her official residence in HEC campus on Friday.

The agency is busy scrutinising documents and other evidence seized during the raids at the residences of 15 MLAs. They included two from JMM, four Ajsu — including labour minister Chandra Prakash Chaudhary — two BJP, one JD(U), three RJD and three Congress.

Meanwhile, Independent candidate Pawan Dhoot has proved a tough nut to crack.

“He has not given any specific information on the question of bribing MLAs during interrogation at his Calcutta residence. But we are sure he will reveal something in the second round of interrogation after holding consultation with his lawyers and well-wishers,” said a source who was part of the team that raided his residence in the Bengal capital.

The CBI has also decided to summon the MLAs, who have come under the scanner of the agency, in a day or two.

The CBI believes that former BJP MP Ajay Maroo and Dhoot are the key persons, whose revelations could arm it with solid evidence to nail legislators.

“It was Maroo who introduced Dhoot to the MLAs and struck the deal with them. We have documentary evidence, which we have collected after analysing the call details over the last 20 days,” he added.

But Maroo said that he was not privy to any deal to get votes for Dhoot, who happens to be his cousin.

“I am not involved in anyway. I just extended media and logistic support like giving my vehicle which I did being his relative,” he maintained.

Maroo, who has returned from holidaying in Goa, said he had met various senior BJP leaders for earning a ticket to the Upper House for himself.

“I have prepared a synopsis of the reactions of the leaders, including Nitin Gadkari, when I moved from pillar to post for the ticket, which I am ready to share with the CBI,” he added.
