Dhanbad/Bokaro, Jan. 19: Two CPI(Maoist) rebels — a leader and a member — have landed in the police net in the past 12 hours.

Bokaro police, led by Bermo inspector R.N. Kunwar, rounded up Bandhan Mahto from Sarubera More in Nawadih block last evening. According to Bokaro SP Saket Singh, several incidents of loot, arson and damaging government buildings are pending against the Naxalite leader in Bokaro and Giridih.

Bandhan has already given relevant information about rebel activity in this zone, he added.

Sources said Budhan was visiting his family in Belgarha village when the villagers tipped off the police about his whereabouts.

Meanwhile in Dhanbad, the police, acting on a tip-off, caught platoon member Kartik Mahto during a raid.

SP Suman Gupta said Kartik hailed from Nero village in Topchanchi and was involved in four cases in Dhanbad, including the one in Hariharpur where Maoists blocked a road and blew up four trucks in August last year.

Kartik, whose area of operation was Jamtara district, Pirtand area of Girdih and Topchanchi area of Dhanbad, was also wanted in a case related to an attack on a CISF camp at Angarpathra. The Maoist squad had also fled with a lot arms and amunition in the incident.

Gupta added that Kartik was Maoist area commander Pawan Da’s confidante. He used to act as the messenger for his group.

Terming the arrest as an achievement, Gupta hoped that Kartik revealed crucial information during interrogation.
