Two persons sustained serious injuries in separate road accidents in Jamshedpur on Tuesday.

A 30-year-old man was knocked down by a speeding autorickshaw in front of Incab main gate in Golmuri.

The mishap took place around 7.30am when Sandeep Yadav was pedalling towards Burmamines from his house at Gwala Bustee in Golmuri. At Incab gate, the autorickshaw hit him from behind and flung him 10ft up in the air.

The auto driver, later identified as Mukesh Kumar (20), tried to flee the spot but was nabbed by passers-by. Local residents informed police who took Kumar into custody.

Sandeep, who works with a Burmamines-based machinery shop, was rushed to MGM Medical College and Hospital in Sakchi with a bleeding ear. Doctors on duty in the emergency said he had sustained grievous head injuries and was unconscious.

Golmuri thana OC Satyendra Kumar Singh confirmed that they had arrested the auto driver and booked him for rash driving.

In the other accident in the city, a 35-year-old man was seriously injured when his bike skidded on Mango-Azadnagar road around 11am.

A resident of Dimna Chowk, Ramesh Kumar Gupta, who is a building material supplier, was on his way to Pardih from Sakchi.

The mishap took place when Gupta tried to save a 12-year-old boy who was cycling on the road and suddenly came in his way. The biker lost balance as he swerved and sustained multiple injuries on his right leg and head.

Gupta was first admitted to MGM hospital and later shifted to Tata Main Hospital.

Aftab Alam, a local resident who witnessed the accident, said the biker was not speeding, but the boy was not following road rules and came in front of the two-wheeler all of a sudden.
