For poll-ready candidates and their well-wishers, all roads led to the district collectorate in Jamshedpur on Tuesday.
Thousands of workers and supporters under the banners of different parties turned up at the district collectorate, where as many as seven prominent candidates filed their papers on Tuesday for the forthcoming Assembly elections.
Leading the way, Jharkhand People’s Party president and former Ghatshila MLA Surya Singh Besra (58), who is contesting from Potka (ST) Assembly constituency, came around 11.30am to submit his nomination papers.
JVM city unit general secretary Abhay Singh (44) was the next to arrive around noon to complete the formalities. Singh is in the fray from the Jamshedpur East constituency. A large number of party supporters assembled at Kasidih Durga Puja Maidan and marched towards the collectorate in the form of a procession. Sitting Ichagarh MLA Arvind Singh and other senior party leaders also turned up to extend their support to Singh.
JMM candidate Kamaljit Kaur Gill (49), who is also eyeing the Jamshedpur East, followed soon and filed his nomination around 12.30pm.
Mangal Kalindi (41), who left the Ajsu and joined the JMM some five months ago, came next with a large number of supporters, including East Singhbhum district JMM chief Ramesh Hansdah, party central committee general secretary Mohan Karmakar and others. He filed papers for the Jugsalai (SC) reserved constituency.
Sitting Jugsalai MLA and Ajsu leader Ramchandra Sahis (39) came with BJP district president Nandji Prasad and senior party leader Rajkumar Singh around 1.30pm. Both Ajsu and BJP leaders will campaign for Sahis under a pre-poll pact.
Upender Singh (51), who joined the JMM earlier this month, came next along with party youth wing leader Mahabir Murmu, veteran party leader Sheikh Badruddin and Pramod Lal to stake his claim on the Jamshedpur West constituency.
Another political stalwart Shahadat Khan (29) submitted his papers as an Independent from the Jamshedpur West constituency later on the day.
These apart, two candidates filed nominations for Baharagora (general) constituency while one candidate submitted papers for Ghatshila (ST) reserved seat at the Ghatshila SDO office, some 45km from Jamshedpur, during the day.
JMM’s Kunal Sarangi and BJP leader Dineshanand Goswami filed their papers for Baharagora while Dukhi Ram Mardi, a Jai Bharat Samanta Party candidate, submitted papers from the Ghatshila constituency.
The six constituencies in the district will go to the polls on Decmeber 2.
