Tanushree Dutta, who has mostly done glam-doll roles in the course of her brief career was seen in a ‘substantial’ role in Vishram Sawant’s Risk. She plays a dancer in the film and the character is not exactly non-glamorous. But Tanushree claims she has a lot of great things to do in the film where she’s opposite Randeep Hooda. “It is a performance-based role, which is quite different from the movies I have done earlier. I play a very mature role. I am Suryakant’s [Randeep] pillar of strength. It’s a romantic relationship but it highlights the sacrifices of love,” she says enthusiastically.
The film too is special, she feels. “Risk is a story of an honest and upright man who happens to be a cop named Suryakant. He realises his job is full of risks and doing his duty honestly is the toughest job. He is standing at the crossroads where he has to decide between his duty and his commitment towards his family or his love, as they have to pay a heavy price for his honesty. Risk is the other side of a cop’s life. It’s the jeopardy his family faces for standing by him and his commitment towards his uniform,” she explains.
Randeep Hooda, the hero of Risk, is known for his intense portrayals. So did his intensity rub off on her? “I think Randeep has done justice to the character. I hope I have done the same, too. Off the screen, Randeep is a fun-loving guy. He is a very cheerful person who tries to make every moment unforgettable. It was really great working with him,” she says.
And what about director Vishram Sawant? He is a great buddy of Randeep, so was he equally friendly with Tanushree? “Vishram is the most creative director I have met. He takes care of the minutest details, starting from the costumes, the look to the entire treatment of the movie. Not only that, he is an incredible technician also. He had designed our costumes in the movie as well as for my song, Hichki. Yes, he was very nice and good to me, too,” she beams.
Her look in the film is pretty interesting. “I have been given a very colourful look to provide a glamour quotient. I play a dancer in the movie and Randeep’s ladylove, his strength.”
She also had the opportunity of working with the veteran actor Vinod Khanna, who is making a comeback with this film after quite a long time. “I had the opportunity of being in Risk with Vinodji but unfortunately I didn’t have a single scene with him,” she regrets.
Anything interesting on the sets which she would like to share? “Well, it happened during the shooting of Hichki, the lavani dance number in the movie. I’m very accident-prone. While we were shooting Hichki, I was fully ready for my shot and there was a scorpion at my feet which lay absolutely still. I thought it was fake and very absentmindedly I started twitching my toe. At the same time, Vishram announced the shot. To my despair it started moving and I screamed and jumped off the dance floor. This incident became quite a scene on the sets,” she laughs. She’s working on several films like Harry Baweja’s Speed, Raj Kanwar’s Raqeeb, Subhash Ghai’s Good Boy Bad Boy and Priyadarshan’s Dhol.
