New Delhi, Jan. 16: Delhi High Court today admitted the appeal of another convict in the Parliament attack case, S.A.R. Geelani, a suspended lecturer who was sentenced to death by the trial court.
Yesterday, the court had admitted the appeal of Navjot Sandhu, alias Afsan Guru, the wife of another accused Shaukat Hussain, alias Guru. Navjot was awarded five years’ rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000.
Justice Usha Mehra and Justice Pradeep Nandrajog told today the prosecution to file a reply by February 3, the same day when the reply on Sandhu’s appeal would have to be filed.
Geelani moved the application, seeking directions to the jail authorities to supply him with reading and writing material and allow access to the jail library.
Delhi police counsel Mukta Gupta, responding to the court notice on this application, said Geelani wanted the jail authorities to let him get study materials from home. This, Gupta said, was not allowed by the jail rules.
