Northeast Frontier Railway will run two pairs of Holi-special trains between Kamakhya (Guwahati) and Anand Vihar (New Delhi). The chief public relations officer of NF Railway, Subhanan Chanda, said, “Special trains are expected to clear the rush of passengers during this festival. Waitlisted passengers of other trains can also change their schedule to avail of this special train.” The Holi special (train number 04052) will leave from Anand Vihar on Wednesday and Monday at 11.45 pm to reach Kamakhya at 2.45pm on Friday and on March 11.

Abduction

Police intensified the search operation for abducted trader, Raju Mishra.

Mishra along with the six others were abducted at gun point on Monday from Gutguti in the district. Following police operation, the five persons were released but not Mishra.

Contraband

The BSF seized 691 head of cattle and contraband items such as Yaba tablets, cannabis and apprehended 36 alleged smugglers involved in trans-border smuggling to Bangladesh through Meghalaya over the past week.

The total seizure was valued at over Rs 2.8 crore along the international border with Meghalaya. These items were to be smuggled to Bangladesh.

Two die in road mishap

At least two persons died on the spot while 13 others were injured in a road accident near Chirakuta under Bilasipara sub division of Dhubri district on National Highway 17 on Tuesday morning.

Houses gutted

Three houses were gutted in a fire that broke out on Monday night in the Binpatty area of Dhubri town. In Doomdooma, a house at Birsa Munda Colony on Tuesday evening was damaged in a fire.

Man arrested

Md Karim Khan alias Kalu, a resident of Lekhapani in Assam, was arrested allegedly for his involvement in extortion from businessmen and government officials in Arunachal Pradesh’s Khonsa and Laju towns. Khan was sent to three-day police custody after his arrest on Tuesday.

Salaries held up

The monthly salaries of head teachers of Rajabari Government LP School and No. 1 Kathalguri LP School, under the block elementary education officer, Demow, have been held up because of alleged financial irregularities in the two schools. The action has been taken following an order from the office of the district elementary education officer, Sivasagar, on Monday.

Drama contest

An all-Assam bhaona (drama) competition will be organised at Sankar-Aajan Samannay Kshetra, Duwarisiga (Gajpuriya Pukhuri) in Nitaipukhuri near Demow from Wednesday.

Overbridges

The Mizoram government will construct a pedestrian overbridge at Vaivakawn and Bawngkawn here, deputy chief minister Tawnluia told the Assembly on Monday.

Workshop

An interactive workshop on branding of tea was held here on Tuesday. The workshop was attended by former directors of Tata Global Beverages and was organised by Tea Board India.

Football grounds

The Mizoram government is planning to construct two elevated football fields at Zarkawt and Chaltlang, sports minister Robert Romawia Royte told the Assembly on Monday.

Financial aid

The Mizoram government will disbursed Rs 3 lakh aif the beneficiaries under the Socio-Economic Development Policy, chief minister Zoramthanga told the Assembly on Monday.
