The Jammu and Kashmir administration has imposed a six-day lockdown across the Valley, except for Bandipora district, following a spike in Covid-19 cases, officials said on Wednesday.

The Valley had been under complete lockdown for weeks after March 19 but, restrictions were eased last month.

Officials said the lockdown will come into force from Wednesday evening and last till July 27 evening.

The administration, in its order, said the decision to relax the curbs will be taken if the situation related to Covid-19 improves, suggesting the lockdown might last longer.

The novel coronavirus cases have risen to around 16,000 in Jammu and Kashmir, which is more than the national average as the Union Territory accounts for less than 1 per cent of country’s population.
