New Delhi, March 13 (PTI): An Air India pilot has been arrested for allegedly using forged marksheets to procure a licence — the second such case in four days.
The directorate general of civil aviation (DGCA) had ordered fresh scrutiny of the licences of nearly 4,000 pilots.
Last night, Delhi police apprehended J.K. Verma following investigations into a complaint filed by the aviation regulator.
“We arrested Verma. Investigations are on. We have been provided more names by the DGCA. The scanner is on two more pilots, Meenakshi Sehgal and Swaran Singh Talwar,” a senior police officer said.
Sehgal, a resident of north Delhi, and Talwar, a resident of Jaipur, are absconding.
Delhi police had on March 8 arrested Parminder Kaur Gulati, a suspended pilot of IndiGo Airlines, for allegedly obtaining the mandatory Airlines Transport Pilot Licence using invalid documents.
“Commercial pilot licences are being scrutinised following this incident,” said civil aviation secretary Nasim Zaidi.
E.K. Bharat Bhushan, the director general of the civil aviation, said the issue of pilots submitting bogus marksheets had come to notice “by chance” following probe into a faulty landing by a woman pilot.
