Imphal, June 25 :    Imphal, June 25:  The National Socialist Council of Nagalim (Isak-Muivah) has served a ?quit notice? on Kukis living in Maphou village of Manipur?s Senapati district, raising the spectre of a fresh Naga-Kuki conflict in the state. The NSCN(I-M) has reportedly asked the Kukis to leave the village by tomorrow. Police sources here said about 20 militants belonging to the NSCN(I-M) and its ally, the Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (Oken), raided the Kuki village early this morning and asked the villagers to leave. The rebels also attacked the villagers, injuring three of them. A joint team of the police, Manipur Rifles and the Indian Reserve Battalion rushed to the village on being informed about the incident. The rebels opened fire on the securitymen while they were returning from the Kuki village, but fled when the latter retaliated. Sources said there was no casualty on either side. Tension between the Nagas and Kukis of the area has mounted in the wake of the incident. The NSCN(I-M) ?quit notice? is believed to be in retaliation to the killing of nine Tangkhul Naga villagers by Kuki militants near Maphou on June 1. The Kuki rebels had said that they killed the Tangkhul Nagas to avenge the NSCN(I-M) attack on Kukis in May. A Kuki villager had been killed and two non-Kukis injured in the attack. Sources said the Naga militants came looking for Kuki National Front (KNF) rebels this morning. They reportedly asked the Kuki residents of Maphou to provide information about KNF hideouts in the area. The security forces are keeping vigil in the area in apprehension of a backlash against the Nagas.
