Gawli furlough
Nagpur, March 3 (PTI): Gangster-turned-politician Arun Gawli, serving life imprisonment in a murder case, has been granted furlough by the Nagpur bench of Bombay High Court.
The bench has asked the state government to decide the duration of the furlough. Gawli, founder of the Akhil Bharatiya Sena, was convicted in 2012 for the murder of Shiv Sena MLA Kamalakar Jamsandekar in 2008.
Grievances
New Delhi (PTI): All public grievances need to be addressed within two months, Union minister Jitendra Singh has said in the Rajya Sabha. He also said in case of delay an interim reply with reasons has to be provided. Singh said 2015 saw over three-fold increase in grievances over the previous year.
Plane landing
New Delhi (PTI): Twenty incidents of emergency landings, including those because of bomb threats, have been reported to aviation regulator DGCA over the past three years, the Centre informed the Lok Sabha on Thursday.
Assault row
Mumbai (PTI): A 26-year-old Manipuri woman was allegedly assaulted by a man in suburban Santacruz. According to the victim's family, the incident happened on February 27, but police lodged the FIR only on Wednesday. The police sources said they did not have all the details about the incident initially.
Tiger count
Bhopal (PTI): Madhya Pradesh has 397 tigers according to the latest state government census. A senior official said the number has risen by 89 since the last count in 2014. Forest officials now expect the state to regain its Tiger State tag that it hadlost to Karnataka in 2011.
Prison stick
Mumbai (PTI): Bombay High Court on Thursday directed the superintendents of all jails across Maharashtra to ensure basic facilities for inmates, after taking serious note of the poor conditions in prisons. The court asked the superintendents to file compliance reports within four weeks.
