New Delhi, March 26: Truckers have threatened to go on strike across the country from April 1 to protest hikes in diesel prices and insurance charges and other issues that include demands to streamline toll payments.
The All India Motor Transport Congress, which has given the strike call, has said the vehicles will go off the roads if their demands are not addressed by this weekend.
New Delhi (PTI): A consumer forum, while dismissing a plea by Vodafone India Ltd, has ruled that consumer fora can hear complaints against telecom companies. Vodafone, relying on a Supreme Court order of 2009, said a consumer forum had no jurisdiction to her such matter.
Satara (PTI): Marathi author Laxman Mane has been booked for allegedly raping three Dalit women, Maharashtra police said. The women alleged the Padma Shri awardee raped them on the pretext of confirming their jobs in a school where they worked. A search is on to nab him.
Mumbai (PTI): Bombay High Court has directed the Centre to reply to an application filed by the Adarsh Housing Society seeking transfer of its petition challenging a demolition order against it to the National Green Tribunal. The matter has been adjourned to April 22.
Jammu (PTI): Chief minister Omar Abdullah has told the state Assembly that 4,081 militants have surrendered in Jammu and Kashmir in the past two decades. Around 210 terrorists have been provided monetary incentives under a surrender policy in the form of cash and stipend, he added.
Dehra Dun (PTI): An elephant trampled a man to death in Champawat district triggering protests by residents, police said. Prakashan Pandey, 45, was returning from a party when the accident took place. People alleged that the forest department was doing nothing to stop elephant movement in residential areas.
Mathura, March 26 (PTI): An attempt to fraudulently withdraw Rs 60 lakh from the account of slain soldier Lance Naik Hemraj’s widow has been made at a bank in Haryana’s Palwal district.
ior SP Pradip Yadav said a person submitted two cheques of Rs 30 lakh each at SBI’s Palwal branch to withdraw the money, part of the relief amount given to Dharmvati. Hemraj was killed and beheaded by Pakistani troops near the LoC on January 8.
Panaji (PTI): Bombay High Court has directed the Goa government to file an FIR against 151 people, including former state ministers, mining company owners and government officials, in connection with illegal mining in the state. The state has been asked to file the FIR within six months.
Srinagar (PTI): Seven policemen were injured on Tuesday when a grenade accidentally exploded on the premises of a police station. The bomb disposal squad was inspecting some seized ammunition and explosives when the accident took place. All policemen have been taken to hospital.
Ahmedabad (PTI): Six crew members of a fishing vessel, which caught fire on Monday, were rescued on Tuesday and brought to Jamnagar by a Coast Guard ship, an official release said. The vessel, Shri Raj, had caught fire after an electric spark in the engine room and later sunk.
New Delhi (PTI): Researchers from India and the UK are taking part in a four-day workshop to share information and identify key areas of research to strengthen cyber security. The workshop concludes on Wednesday.

Panaji, March 26 (PTI): The Goa government has promoted the Vasco rape victim and her elder sister to the next class considering it as a special case as both the girls could not take the examinations because of the trauma.
The seven-year-old girl was raped inside the school toilet in Vasco town on January 14. The accused is still at large. A special investigation team of the police has failed to crack the case.
Ahmedabad (PTI): The Keshubhai Patel-led Gujarat Parivartan Party has demanded a reinvestigation by the CBI into the murder of former state minister Haren Pandya and said the “real killers” were still to be booked. He said this after paying tributes to Pandya on his 10th death anniversary.
Jammu (PTI): The VIP sorties in state aircraft and helicopters has cost Jammu and Kashmir nearly Rs 12 crore in the last three years, chief minister Omar Abdullah told the Assembly on Tuesday. The expenditure incurred on these air sorties since 2010 has been Rs 11.96 crore, Omar said in a reply to a cut motion.
New Delhi (PTI): The CBI has submitted translated summons to be served to three officials of Swiss Timing, facing trial in a 2010 Commonwealth Games scam case after it was pulled up by a Delhi court for not complying with its order.
Udhagamandalam (PTI): A forest ranger from Coonoor was arrested on Tuesday while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000 for an official favour to a timber merchant. The merchant had lodged a complaint with the anti-corruption wing of police, saying the ranger had demanded the money for allowing him to transport a silver oak tree, legally cut from the forest.
Pune (PTI): At least 47 two-wheelers were gutted in a fire at a parking lot in Kothrud on Monday night, police have said. The cause of the blaze has yet to be ascertained, the police said, adding a nearby shop was also burnt down.
