Daylong visit to India on September 9 cancelled due to elections to the Knesset

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has cancelled his daylong visit to India on September 9, citing elections to the Knesset on September 17.

That the visit was being rescheduled was announced by Netanyahu’s office to the Israeli media after a conversation he had with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“A short time ago, the Prime Minister spoke with India’s Prime Minister. The two agreed that due to scheduling constraints — the (Israeli) Prime Minister’s visit will take place after the election,” the Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported, quoting a statement issued by Netanyahu’s office.

There was no official word from India despite queries to the external affairs ministry.
