Lucknow: An 18-year-old girl was doused with kerosene and set on fire allegedly by a woman and her son and daughter in Unnao district on the allegation that she had an "immoral relationship" with the son.

The girl was admitted to the district hospital with 55 per cent burn injuries. In her statement before magistrate Shashi B. Dwivedi, she said her neighbour Rita Devi and her son Anshu Lal and daughter Sarita Lal barged into her house and set her on fire when her father had gone to office and mother was working in the field.

"They said they were killing me to end my relationship with Anshu. The truth is that I have no relationship with him," a police officer quoted her as saying.

The incident took place in village Hussain Nagar, 10km from the Unnao district headquarters, on Tuesday.

The father of the victim was quoted by the police as saying that Hori Lal, Rita's husband, used to accuse the girl of having an "immoral relationship" with Anshu.

"Anshu used to accuse my daughter of blackmailing him," said the victim's father.

"A few months ago, Hori had wanted to buy my land at a throwaway price. I had told him clearly that I would not sell my land," the father said.
