New Delhi, April 22 (PTI): Guests at Wiliam and Kate Middleton’s wedding will return home with “Made in India” scarves as a Ludhiana-based company has been commissioned to manufacture the clothing item as a gift at the royal event in London next Friday.

Centex Exports, which deals in high-end luxury stoles, has made about 4,000 scarves to be gifted to the dignitaries at the wedding event.

The scarves have been sourced by Boden, an online fashion business company, all over the UK and the US.

“The royal decided to give these scarves as a souvenir to the top dignitaries. Since they do not purchase directly, they asked Boden to source good scarf manufacturers and our company was chosen among many,” said Vineet Sood, managing director of Centex Exports.

The scarves are made of superfine wool and designed in the Union Jack colours. Each one costs £45.

“There is a slight improvisation with the design as the wool is knit to form an animal print pattern and the Union Jack is made on it. The scarves are made in three colours. Also the printing is penetrated in such a manner that the scarf is reversible and worn both ways,” said Sood.

A greater part of the order has already been shipped to London and the scarf-making process at the factory in Ludhiana will be shown on BBC.

Set up in 1969, Centex exports scarves to leading luxury brands, including Burberry, Hugo Boss & Chopard.

Last year, Centex collaborated with Hugo Boss to manufacture stoles for all the celebrities who attended the prestigious Berlin international film festival.

The guest list at the wedding will include American First Lady Michelle Obama, Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard and the Beckhams.
