From Bangalore to Calcutta, journey of a heart through a green channel

A heart was flown nearly 2,000km from Bangalore to Calcutta and implanted in a patient from Jharkhand in Fortis hospital, off EM Bypass.

A heart was flown nearly 2,000km from Bangalore to Calcutta and implanted in a patient from Jharkhand in Fortis hospital, off EM Bypass.

The Karnataka and Bengal governments, Bangalore police, officials at the airports in Bangalore and Calcutta, IndiGo airline and Calcutta traffic police came together to create a green channel for the heart, packed in a special box. The surgery was described as successful but how the patient will cope with the transplanted heart will be clear only in the coming days. Here’s how the heart made its four-hour journey from an operating theatre in Bangalore to another in Calcutta:
