Flight suffers bird-hit

• COIMBATORE: An Air Arabia flight with 107 passengers on board suffered a bird-hit while landing at the airport here early on Sunday. The flight from Sharjah was about to land around 3.30am when it hit a peacock, airport sources said. However, the pilot managed to land safely. After the incident, the departure of the return flight has been delayed and a technical team from Chennai was attending to the plane,the sources added. PTI

Alphons for bypoll

• NEW DELHI: Union minister Alphons Kannanthanam will be the BJP candidate for the Rajya Sabha bypoll in Rajasthan on November 16, party chief Amit Shah announced on Sunday. The Rajya Sabha seat was vacated by former Union minister M. Venkaiah Naidu when he became Vice-President. The notification for the bypoll will be issued on Monday. PTI

400 bikes gutted

• INDORE: About 400 two-wheelers were gutted in a fire that engulfed three shops selling second-hand vehicles in Indore on Sunday morning, police said. The cause of the fire was not yet known. The blaze started in one of the three shops and quickly spread to the other two adjacent outlets, an officer said. Four fire-tenders were used to douse the flames. PTI. PTI

Teen 'rape'

• KOTA: A 16-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her neighbour in her house in Kota's Mungeda village, police said on Sunday. The family members caught hold of the accused and beat him up, but he managed to flee. The police said efforts were underway to nab him. The girl will be produced before the magistate on Monday. PTI

Road crash kills 4

• RAIPUR: Four persons were killed when their motorcycle collided with a car in Chhattisgarh's Kanker district early on Sunday, police said. The car driver fled leaving behind the vehicle. PTI

Woman denied bail

• NEW DELHI: Delhi High Court has refused bail to a woman accused of strangling her husband, saying the evidence in the case "clearly connects" her to the offence. PTI

Visas for Pak Hindus

• NEW DELHI: As many as 431 Pakistani nationals, mostly Hindus, have been granted long-term visas by the government, making them eligible for PAN and Aadhaar cards as well as allowing them to buy property, a home ministry official said. The move, amid the strained India-Pak relations, is in line with the Narendra Modi government's policy to help minorities in Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh who come to India after facing alleged persecution in their home country. Indian fishermen

• KARACHI: Pakistan has released 68 Indian fishermen held for allegedly violating its territorial waters from Karachi's Landhi jail. The fishermen boarded a train to Lahore from where they will be taken to the Wagah border and handed over to Indian authorities. "We got orders from the interior ministry on Saturday to release the fishermen,"an official in Sindh province said. PTI

Oxford list

• LONDON: At least 70 Indian words have been added in the Oxford English Dictionary . According to the latest list, words like jugaad, dadagiri, achcha, bapu and surya namaskar are now part of the dictionary, the OED said in a statement. Oft-used words like timepass, natak and chup also have their meanings in the dictionary. PTI

Phone assault

• BIJNOR: A 25-year-old man, his father and brother were allegedly beaten by his girlfriend's family in Uttar Pradesh's Islamabad village panchayat for gifting her a mobile phone. A video of the incident, which took place on Saturday, has gone viral. The clip allegedly shows the youth, Vikas, and his family were beaten with slippers and sticks in the panchayat. PTI

Mishap injures 15

• RAMESWARAM: Fifteen people were injured when their van capsized after hitting the railings on the Pamban bridge here on Sunday. The mishap occurred when the driver lost control of it, police said. PTI

• HYDERABAD: The SHE Teams, a police wing tasked with cracking down on eve-teasers and stalkers, has helped reduce crime against women by 20 per cent in Hyderabad. PTI
