Godhra, Feb. 10 (PTI): A Muslim delegation today submitted a memorandum to the district collector demanding the release of Maulvi Hussain Umarji, arrested for his alleged involvement in the Godhra train carnage.

Official sources said the 27-member team, including 15 maulvis, handed over the memorandum stating that charges against Umarji were “false and baseless” and that he had been falsely implicated in the heinous crime.

Police said the situation in Godhra, where the bandh entered its fifth day, was “peaceful and normal”.
