New Delhi, Jan. 6 (PTI): The whole of north India remained in the grip of a severe cold wave today, with 23 more people succumbing in various parts of the region.

Delhi shivered at the season’s lowest of 1.9°C, five notches below normal, while the maximum temperature plummeted to 11.8°C, nine degrees below normal.

According to the Met office, the city is likely to wake up to a foggy morning tomorrow.

Fifteen persons succumbed to intense cold in Uttar Pradesh, taking the statewide toll to 155 this winter. The Met office said the maximum temperature was well below normal in many parts of the state, though the night temperature rose marginally in Varanasi and Allahabad divisions.

The Met forecast said cold wave conditions would continue to prevail in the state for the next 48 hours.

At least six persons succumbed to the chill in Punjab and Haryana.

In Srinagar, the temperature continued to remain below freezing point at -4.6°C.
