New Delhi, Oct. 1: A statue of Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi was unveiled by President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam in Parliament House today.
Statues of three other leaders — C.N. Annadurai, S. Satyamurthi and Pasumpon Muthuramalinga Thevar — were also unveiled. The statue of Bordoloi, sculpted by the late Pranabendu Bikash Dhar, was donated by the Assam government.
This is the first time that the statue of a national leader from the Northeast is being installed in Parliament.
“This is a great day for Assam and it was long overdue,” said Robin Bordoloi, Assam minister and son of Gopinath Bordoloi.
