Patna, Aug. 23:
Key Janata Dal (United) leaders today kicked off the party?s campaign in Bihar even as it was buoyed by the support of three senior Rashtriya Janata Dal leaders, including a state minister.
Re-unified Janata parivar leaders George Fernandes, Nitish Kumar and Ram Vilas Paswan had an ace up their sleeves in their first joint election rally in the state.
Bihar law minister Devnath Prasad along with RJD leaders Ramswaroop Prasad and Harinarayan Singh shared the stage with the Dal (U) leaders to expose the ?corruption? of the Rabri Devi government.
RJD chief Laloo Prasad Yadav has ordered the expulsion of the dissidents. Chief minister Rabri Devi said she was recommending to the Governor immediate dismissal of the law minister for his ?misadventure?.
The Janata Dal (U) described the desertion by the RJD leaders as a ?sign of decay in the party and the beginning of its end?. They said the National Democratic Alliance is the only solution to the political instability that has plagued the country for the last two years.
The Janata Dal (U) leaders said their combined strength would destroy ?Laloo raj? and usher in a new era of social justice.
Paswan said: ?The self-styled messiah of Bihar (Laloo) has ruptured the social fabric of the state. The good elements from his party will join us and the rotten ones will run away.?
Fernandes said he was criticised by the so-called secular parties for his bold stand on the border conflict with Pakistan. He said his party was not interested in politicising Kargil, but had been forced to do so.
?If you have to reply to the charges, you have to talk about it,? he said.
Fernandes also raised the Bofors issue. ?There is no dispute on the utility of the gun. But the kickbacks issue is still a bone of contention,? he said.
Nitish Kumar played up his resignation from the railway ministry. He said he would always be accountable to the people.
