ARUN PRAKASH CHATTERJEE DEAD

Calcutta, Nov.16 :    Calcutta, Nov.16:  Former parliamentarian and veteran lawyer Arun Prakash Chatterjee, 78, died while swimming in a pond at Kasthodanga, in the Thakurpukur police station area. A post-mortem report revealed that Chatterjee died due to 'cardiac-respiratory failure', additional superintendent of police, headquarters, Damayanti Sen said. 'He suffered a massive heart attack while swimming in a pond near his house,' Sen said. Police said Chatterjee, who owns a house in Salt Lake, was holidaying in Kasthadanga for the past few days. Chatterjee, an illustrious lawyer and a former counsel of the state government, had a chequered career in politics. He was a CPM member of the Rajya Sabha, but was later expelled from the party. He joined the CPI and contested the Assembly elections twice unsuccessfully on the party ticket. State law minister Nisith Adhikari has condoled his death.
