Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan on Wednesday said that he helped to clear outstanding loans of over two thousand farmers from Bihar.
The veteran actor took to his personal blog to share the news.
"A promise made done. The farmers from Bihar who had outstanding loans, picked 2,100 of them, and paid off their amount with an OTS (One Time Settlement) with the bank. Called some of them over to Janak and personally gave it to them at the hands of Shweta and Abhishek," he wrote on his blog.
This is not the first time that Amitabh Bachchan has supported farmers.
In November last, Bachchan had helped 1,398 farmers from Uttar Pradesh to clear loans worth more than Rs.4 crore, and personally arranged for 70 selected farmers to travel to Mumbai and receive their bank letters. He had also helped to pay off the loans of 350 farmers from Maharashtra last year as massive protests broke out in the state demanding loan waivers and better crop prices.
The superstar has also been the face of DD Kisan, India's first channel exclusively for farmers that was unveiled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in May 2015.
The Shahenshah of Bollywood also said that he was on his way to honour another promise he made to the families of the martyrs of the Pulwama terror attack.
"Now going to Janak to complete another promise... to give some monetary assist to the martyrs’ families, who sacrificed their lives at Pulwama..." he said.
