Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the Raipur branch office of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Saturday where he said that the government wanted it to become a federal crime investigation agency with offices in all states before the 2024 General Election, according to media reports.

"The NIA will have branches in all states by May 2024," he added.

“The NIA is now recognised internationally as a prime investigation agency. After a short downfall, the agency has managed to achieve all of its goals,” he said.

"It is collective responsibility of states and Centre to effectively tackle trans-border crimes. Rs 57,000 crore investment has come to Jammu and Kashmir post-2019. We have taken strong measures against NGOs which were creating obstacles in India's growth. We have amended Foreign Contribution Regulation Act to stop its misuse by NGOs," added Shah.

Claiming that the Modi government has a zero-tolerance policy for terrorism and related crimes, Shah said the NIA is working towards building ties with its foreign counterparts for better coordination in terror investigations.
