Mumbai, April 10: Anuj Tikku, who featured in films like No One Killed Jessica and Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, is being questioned after his father was found murdered in the actor’s Mumbai flat over the weekend.
The interrogation follows the arrest of three persons, former members of don Santosh Shetty’s gang, over the past two days.
Anuj was a suspect initially as he had been untraceable since the murder on Sunday. He has not been declared an accused so far, nor given a clean chit, but police said the arrested trio had not given any information yet that would suggest Anuj was involved in the conspiracy.
Joint police commissioner Himanshu Roy indicated the murder of 67-year-old Arunkumar Tikku, a Delhi businessman who was visiting his son, could be a fallout of attempts by Vijay Palande, Dhananjay Shinde and Manoj Gajkosh to grab the flat in Andheri’s Lokhandwala. Lokhandwala is the preferred address of TV stars and movie aspirants.
“Anuj had no legal heirs and they (the trio) may have wanted to acquire the three-bedroom apartment for themselves,” Roy said. Anuj, an engineer from Ghaziabad near Delhi, came to Mumbai to try his hand at acting after his divorce a few years ago.
Arunkumar was apparently unhappy that his son had leased out the flat to a German lady, Nevice Ligensa. “She (Nevice) had never lived in the flat but Shinde and Gajkosh, who were his (Palande’s) accomplices, began living there,” Roy said.
Arunkumar was found by a neighbour with multiple stab wounds. Palande, an associate of Anuj, had asked the actor to accompany him to Goa on the day of the murder. While they were away, Shinde and Gajkosh killed Arunkumar, police said.
