Israeli fighter jets hit targets in the Gaza Strip minutes after a weeklong truce expired on Friday, as the war with Hamas resumed in full force. Renewed hostilities heightened concerns for the about 140 hostages who remain in Gaza, after more than 100 were freed as part of the truce.

Forty-eight private schools in Bengaluru received an email with a bomb threat on its premises, triggering panic among the staff and parents, police said. The students and staff were immediately evacuated from the school premises, police said, adding no suspicious objects have been found yet and prima facie, it looks like it's a hoax message.

The US has welcomed as 'good and appropriate' India's decision to announce a high-level probe into its allegations that an Indian official was involved in a foiled plot to assassinate a Sikh separatist on American soil and said it is looking forward to seeing the results. An unnamed Indian official appeared in an indictment filed by US federal prosecutors in a Manhattan court on Wednesday along with the Indian national, who the Department of Justice alleges hired someone in the US to assassinate Pannun.

The air quality in the national capital remained in the very poor category while the city recorded a minimum temperature of 13.3 degrees Celsius, three notches above the season's average. The air quality was recorded as 380 at 11 am.

The Securities and Exchange Board of India is required to act in the public interest, the Bombay High Court said castigating the regulatory body for not complying with an order passed by the court in October. The HC had in October directed the SEBI to provide certain probe documents to the minority shareholders of a company.

The Central Board of Secondary Education will not award any division or distinction in class 10 and 12 board exams, a senior official said. Sanyam Bhardwaj said the Board does not calculate, declare or inform the percentage of marks.

Supreme Court asked Tamil Nadu Governor R N Ravi to hold a meeting with Chief Minister M K Stalin to resolve the impasse over the non-grant of assent to Bills by him passed by the state legislative Assembly. “I think the governor invites the chief minister and let them sit down and discuss it," the bench said and fixed December 11 as the date to hear the plea.

Jet fuel or ATF price was cut by 4.6 per cent, the second reduction in a month, while commercial cooking gas (LPG) rate was hiked by Rs 21 per 19-kg cylinder in line with international benchmarks. Aviation turbine fuel (ATF) price was cut by Rs 5,189.25, or 4.6 per cent, in the national capital to Rs 1,06,155.67 per kl from Rs 1,11,344.92, according to a price notification of state-owned fuel retailers.

Two Railway employees were killed and another sustained serious injuries after they were hit by an oncoming train while repairing a faulty signal near Jahangirabad railway station here, police said. Arvind Kumar (28), Tala Soren alias Kallu (45), and Devi Prasad (30) were fixing the fault in one of the signal poles when suddenly two trains -- Cochin Express and Barauni Express -- came on both the up and down tracks, police said.

Authorities in the US have rescued a 20-year-old Indian student, who was held captive for months without access to a bathroom, viciously beaten, and forced to work at three homes by his cousin and two other Indian-origin men in an incident described as 'absolutely inhumane and unconscionable.' The victim is safe and being treated at a hospital for multiple bone fractures, as well as lacerations and injuries covering his entire body, said prosecutor Joe McCulloch.
