Pakistan's former prime minister Imran Khan was injured on Thursday when an unidentified gunmen opened fire on the container-mounted-truck carrying him during his protest march in Pakistan's Punjab province, but he was out of danger, media reports said.

The incident occurred near Allahwala Chowk of Wazirabad town of Punjab when Imran was leading the protest march.

Phase 1 of Gujarat votes will take place on December 1, Phase 2 on December 5, counting and result to be out on December 8. 

The Election Commission will announce the schedule for the Gujarat assembly polls at 12 noon on Thursday.

The poll panel has convened a press conference to announce the schedule.

The term of the 182-member Gujarat assembly ends on February 18 next year.

Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Thursday skipped summons issued by the Enforcement Directorate to face questioning in connection with a case of alleged illegal mining and is going to Chhattisgarh to attend a tribal programme instead.

The ED had asked Soren to appear for questioning at its regional office here at 11 am but he did not go there.

The Uttar Pradesh Police on Thursday arrested a man for allegedly burning a copy of the Quran inside a mosque here.

The accused has been identified as Taj Mohammad, they said, adding that it is not yet known why he committed the crime.

Inspector General of Police Ramit Sharma said some part of the holy book was found burnt in Fakhre Alam mosque located in Kotwali area of the city Wednesday evening.

Batting maestro Virat Kohli, along with the Asia Cup winning duo of Jemimah Rodrigues and Deepti Sharma, were on Thursday nominated for the ICC 'Player of the Month' award in the men's and women categories, respectively.

The nominations are for the month of October.

While Kohli has been nominated for the first time, following his heroics with the bat in the T20 World Cup wins against arch-rivals Pakistan and the Netherlands, Rodrigues and Sharma were shortlisted after they played pivotal roles in the Indian women's team's Asia Cup triumph.

With nearly 90 per cent of ballots counted in the Israeli general elections, veteran politician Benjamin Netanyahu was poised to be the prime minister once again, according to official data.

Netanyahu's party Likud and its far-right allies are projected to receive a clear majority with 65 seats in the 120-member Knesset or Parliament.

Likud leader Netanyahu, 73, will with near certainty be Israel's next prime minister after approximately 90 per cent of the votes counted, the Jerusalem Post newspaper quoted the Central Election Committee's data.
