"The bird is freed," billionaire Elon Musk tweeted on Friday after completing the whopping USD 44 billion takeover of Twitter and firing the social media giant's four top executives, including CEO Parag Agrawal and legal executive Vijaya Gadde. The New York Times said that Musk, the world's richest man, closed the deal to buy Twitter on Thursday. "The bird is freed," Musk, 51, tweeted after closing the deal.
Citing people with knowledge of the situation, the report said that Musk "has started cleaning house at Twitter with the firings of at least four top executives". The Twitter executives who were fired include Agrawal, Gadde, Chief Financial Officer Ned Segal and General Counsel Sean Edgett.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday mooted the idea of "One Nation, One Uniform" for police, saying it is just a suggestion for consideration and he is not trying to impose it on the states. Addressing a "Chintan Shivir" of state home ministers, Modi also advocated close cooperation among the states to tackle crimes and criminals. The National Commission for Women on Friday formed a two-member fact-finding team to look into allegations of auctioning off of girls for loan repayment in Rajasthan's Bhilwara district, it said in a release.
The women's panel said it had come across several media reports about girls being auctioned off to settle disputes over loan repayments in Bhilwara. "It has been reported that in many settlements, girls are sold into prostitution on stamp paper.
In some cases, their mothers are raped on the diktat of 'khap' (caste) panchayats for the settlement of disputes," it said.
At least 84 shops were gutted in a blaze at a market complex in the Meghalaya capital on Friday, officials said. However, no casualties were reported in the inferno that broke out around 4 AM. Three fire tenders doused the blaze after several hours of firefight.
A vendor at the market complex told PTI that goods worth lakhs of rupees have been damaged. Officials of the Fire Department and the Shillong Municipal Board suspected that a short circuit might have caused the incident.

North Korea fired a ballistic missile toward the sea on Friday, Seoul officials said, as its rival South Korea was wrapping up an annual military drill that the North views as an invasion rehearsal.
South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff said in a statement the missile flew toward North Korea's eastern waters but gave no further details including how far the weapon flew.
