Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami to take stock of the rescue operation to save 41 workers trapped in the Silkyara tunnel and stressed on the need to keep their morale up. Rescuers are trying to send cooked food and set up a phone connection to 41 workers trapped for eight days in the tunnel in the Indian Himalayas as they explore fresh rescue plans after previous attempts stalled, officials said.

A fire broke out in a jetty area here in which at least 35 fishing boats were gutted, even as the police launched a hunt for 10 to 15 persons who allegedly partied in one of the boats, officials said. Though 25 fire tenders were pressed into service from across the city over time, it was the Navy's Sahara firefighting boat which managed to extinguish the flames by spraying foam and sand, Visakhapatnam Harbour Assistant Commissioner of Police B Moses Paul said.

In a fresh incident of violence, two persons were killed in a gunfight between two rival groups in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district, police said. A tribal organisation, however, claimed that the Kuki-Zo community people were attacked without provocation and declared a 'shutdown' in the district.

A 23-year-old man allegedly died by suicide in West Bengal's Bankura district after India lost the World Cup final to Australia, his family said. Rahul Lohar used to work at a clothing store in the area, and he took a leave on Sunday to watch the final match.

The Election Commission said over Rs 1,760 crore worth of freebies, drugs, cash, liquor and precious metals aimed at inducing voters in the five poll-going states have been seized so far. While assembly polls have already been held in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Mizoram, voting will take place in Rajasthan and Telangana on November 25 and November 30 respectively.

Rohit Sharma was named the captain of the ICC's Team of the Tournament after the conclusion of the World Cup, with a total of six Indians including the Player of the Tournament, Virat Kohli, featuring among the XI. Rohit led the team from the front as his fearless batting won him praise from all corners, with the Indian skipper finishing as the second highest scorer in the tournament with 597 runs in 11 matches at 54.27 with one century and three fifties.

Yemen's Houthi rebels seized an Israeli-linked cargo ship, bound to India, in a crucial Red Sea shipping route on Sunday and took its 25 crew members hostage, officials said, raising fears that regional tensions heightened over the Israel-Hamas war were playing out on a new maritime front. “All ships belonging to the Israeli enemy or that deal with it will become legitimate targets,” the Houthis said.

A passenger on board an IndiGo flight from Jaipur to Bengaluru who was allegedly intoxicated and misbehaved with crew members despite multiple warnings was arrested, police said on Monday. "The passenger was handed over to the local law enforcement authorities on arrival for further legal action. We regret the inconvenience caused to the other passengers," the airline said.
