In a show of unity, 19 opposition parties, including the Congress, Left and TMC, on Wednesday announced their decision to boycott the inauguration of the new Parliament building by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying they find no value in a new building when the soul of democracy has been sucked out.

Sengol', a historical sceptre from Tamil Nadu, which was given by the British to first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru to represent the transfer of power and was kept in a museum in Allahabad will be installed in the new Parliament building to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 28, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said Wednesday.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal met Shiv Sena (UBT) head Uddhav Thackeray at the latter's residence in Mumbai on Wednesday to seek support for the AAP's fight against the Centre's ordinance on control of services in Delhi.

He was accompanied by Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha members Sanjay Singh and Raghav Chadha, as well as Delhi minister Atishi.

In a relief to Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan, an MP-MLA sessions court here on Wednesday overturned the three-year sentence awarded to him by a lower court in a 2019 hate speech case.

An MP-MLA magistrate court had on October 27, 2022 sentenced Khan, the then SP MLA from the Rampur Sadar seat, in the case. Following this, Khan was disqualified as an MLA.

The Enforcement Directorate on Wednesday conducted fresh searches, including at the premises of some people linked to AAP MP Sanjay Singh here, in connection with its ongoing probe in the money laundering case linked to alleged irregularities in the Delhi liquor policy, officials sources said.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader also issued a Twitter video message, saying two of his associates-- Ajit Tyagi and Sarvesh Mishra-- are also being raided by the federal agency.

Reserve Bank Governor Shaktikanta Das on Wednesday said inflation has moderated, and the next print is expected to be lower than 4.7 per cent though there is no room for complacency and the war on inflation will continue.

Retail inflation fell to an 18-month low of 4.7 per cent in April, mainly due to cooling food prices.

Market value of investments made by state-owned Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) in seven companies of the Adani group has swelled to Rs 44,670 crore as stock prices rose from the lows seen in the aftermath of the Hindenburg report.

The country's largest insurer and leading institutional investor in the Adani group has seen the market value of its holdings in Adani stocks increase by around Rs 5,500 crore since April, stock exchange data showed.

A metropolitan court on Wednesday asked former BJP MP Subramanian Swamy to file his written submissions by Friday in response to a plea by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for a no-objection certificate to facilitate issuance of an "ordinary passport" to him after he surrendered his diplomatic passport upon his disqualification as an MP.

Gandhi, who was disqualified as a Lok Sabha member after his conviction in a defamation case, is an accused in the National Herald case in which Swamy is the complainant.

A day after cricket legend Sourav Ganguly was appointed the brand ambassador of Tripura tourism, BJP tried to showcase the appointment as a ‘righting of a wrong’ against a son of the soil, while TMC termed it as a normal practice and asked the saffron party not to politicize the selection.

The BJP unit in West Bengal claimed that the former Indian skipper was not given his due in Bengal under TMC rule and demanded he should be appointed as the Sheriff of Calcutta.

A 19-year-old Indian-origin teen accused of deliberately crashing a rented U-Haul truck into a White House barrier told authorities that he wanted to get inside the mansion to "seize power" and "kill" US President Joe Biden, according to media reports.

US Park Police arrested Sai Varshith Kandula after he crashed the truck into the security barriers on the north side of Lafayette Park shortly before 10 pm on Monday, sending multiple pedestrians running from the scene, The Washington Times reported.
