Team XMC 2014 |
The wolves of Wall Street prowled Park Street recently, all geared to max Xavier’s Management Convention 2014, organised by the department of business administration of St. Xavier’s College, in association with The Telegraph.
The two-day fest saw students running around to make paper planes while being blindfolded, playing the market like real-life brokers on Wall Street and pitching ideas to prospective sponsors.
XMC is a national-level management convention that helps students from across the country demonstrate managerial talent that’s required in a corporate setting, with events covering finance, marketing, human resource, public relations, business plan and, of course, the popular Best Manager competition.
This year outstation teams included Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies, New Delhi, and Christ University, Bangalore, who were pitted against students of city institutes like Shri Shikshayatan College, iLead and Bhawanipur Education Society College, apart from the home team.
This year’s theme was ‘Turning the Wheel of Time’ and a massive wheel of fortune was set up on the college premises. A special attraction was a live auction where participants bid for their favourite stars and an instant photo booth that ensured the fun-filled days were adequately documented and preserved. Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies was the overall winner of XMC 2014.
Guided by rector Father Dominic Savio, Father Felix Raj, principal, Prof Amitava Roy, dean of the department, and professor-in-charge Baishali Agarwal, all the events organised by the Xavier’s Management Society were actually academic exercises that turned out to be loads of fun as well.
This society also organises X-Confero (an inter-college debate competition) and X-Talk (a panel discussion) and publishes X-Ecutive, a departmental magazine with compilations from the students and distinguished contributors.
