Wednesday star Jenna Ortega is in talks to reunite with director Tim Burton for a sequel to Beetlejuice at Warner Bros., US-based entertainment magazine Deadline reported on Friday.
According to Deadline, Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder are expected to reprise their roles in the sequel with Burton returning to the director’s chair.
As per reports, if a deal is made, Ortega would play the daughter of Lydia, the character played by Winona Ryder in the 1988 film.
Apart from Keaton and Ryder, the original film also starred Alec Baldwin, Geena Davis, Jeffrey Jordan and Catherine O’Hara. The fantasy horror film grossed USD 80 million on a USD 15 million budget, and it won the best makeup Oscar at the 1989 Academy Awards.
Ortega is currently riding high on her record-breaking Addams Family spin-off series, Wednesday, streaming on Netflix. The show broke several records and has been renewed for a second season. She will next be seen in Scream VI and then as the host of Saturday Night Live on the March 11’s episode.
The 20-year-old actress began her career as Young Jane on The CW’s Jane the Virgin, followed by parts in You and Yes Day. She starred in last year’s Scream reboot and also appeared in the horror hit X.
