JAZZ TO JIBANMUKHI, BOLLYWOOD TO BANGLA BAND, THEY MAKE YOU HEAR IT ALL. T2 TUNES IN TO THE CALLER TUNES OF SOME OF OUR STARS Text: Kushali Nag And Mohua Das What's Your Caller Tune And Why? Tell T2@abpmail.com Published 05.01.10, 12:00 AM

June

What’s playing: Sway by Pussycat Dolls.

Why: It’s my favourite song and favourite dance number too. I love the lyrics and the rhythm. Everyone has complimented me on this caller tune.

How many times she has changed her caller tune: Sway has been there for about a couple of months and I don’t plan to change it soon. I have had five different caller tunes in the past three years.

Churni Ganguly

What’s playing: Elvis Presley’s Now Or Never.

Why: I like Elvis Presley’s songs. I like the passion in his voice.

How many times she has changed her caller tune: I change it once in three months or whenever my friends ask me to change it. My favourite is Harry Belafonte’s The Banana Boat Song and I have had it as my caller tune a number of times.

Sandipta Sen

What’s playing: Wall E, from the film Wall-E.

Why: Well, the reason is a little weird! I love spooky films and this number has the singer crooning in a manner that scares the listener! My earlier caller tunes were all romantic tracks, so I chose Wall E for a change. It’s fun!

How many times she has changed her caller tune: I change my caller tune every two months. It all depends on my mood.

Bappaditya Bandopadhyay

What’s playing: Prithibita naki by Mohiner Ghoraguli.

Why: I have a personal association with Gautam Chattopadhyay (the writer-composer of Prithibita naki). He is my guru. I am fond of this song because he had written the lyrics.

How many times he has changed his caller tune: Never. And I will never change this tune.

Raima Sen

What’s playing: Better Together by Jack Johnson.

Why: Because I like this song.

How many times she has changed her caller tune: I keep changing my caller tune. But I am going to keep the Better Together track for some time.

Arindam Sil

What’s playing: Louis Armstrong’s What A Wonderful World.

Why: I am a huge jazz fan and I love Louis Armstrong numbers. Besides, I feel caller tunes should always have a positivity about them.

How many times he has changed his caller tune: Eight to 10 times in the last three years but I’m not going to change this one in a hurry.

Jisshu Sengupta

What’s playing: Soniyo soniyo from Raaz The Mystery Continues...

Why: I like this song and it’s been my caller tune for over a year now.

How many times he has changed his caller tune: I don’t change it too often. Who’s got the time?

Rimjhim Mitra

What’s playing: Mon giyechhe moner ghar from Cross Connection.

Why: Because it’s from my film and also because I just love this song! I would have had it as my caller tune even if it was from some other film.

How many times she has changed her caller tune: I change it every three months. What song I will go for depends on my mood. I once had a Bhojpuri track as my caller tune! My friends teased me so much that I finally gave in and changed it.

Jeet Gannguli

What’s playing: Ek cup cha khasta lero from Prem Amar.

Why: Every time my film releases, I choose the peppiest track as my caller tune. It feels good to have your compositions as your caller tune.

How many times he has changed his caller tune: I change it whenever my film releases. My next caller tune will be from Bolo Na Tumi Amaar.

Ushasie

What’s playing: Tomaye chhute chaowar muhurtora by band Sahar.

Why: A friend of mine had this caller tune and I heard it first on his phone. Every time I listen to it, I remember someone special!

How many times she has changed her caller tune: It depends on my mood. I am a huge Shah Rukh Khan fan and I love to have his songs as my caller tune. But Tomaye chhute will remain on my phone for some time because the person whom this song reminds me of is more special than SRK!

Anjan Dutt

What’s playing: Koto ki korar chhilo je from Madly Bangalee.

Why: Just like that. I like the song and it’s a nice way of sharing it with others.

How many times he has changed his caller tune: This is my first caller tune. I would probably change it if I find a better song written by me!

Manali Dey

What’s playing: Shukran Allah from Kurbaan.

Why: I like this song and also because it’s been lucky for me! If a tune turns out to be unlucky, I change it immediately.

How many times she has changed her caller tune: I change my caller tune every week. From old classics to popular Bollywood tracks, I have tried them all.

Debojyoti Mishra

What’s playing: Mathura Nagarpati from Raincoat.

Why: This song composed by me is very close to my heart. It doesn’t jar with any mood.

How many times he has changed his caller tune: In the last four months, I’ve changed my caller tune four times.

Sreelekha Mitra

What’s playing: Enrique Iglesius’s Hero.

Why: I like Enrique Iglesius songs and I recently bought a CD, which has this track. There’s no other reason behind choosing this song, not that I want someone to be my hero!

How many times she has changed her caller tune: Before this, I had Mera kuchh saaman from Ijaazat for over two years. So, this song is here to stay.

Bickram Ghosh

What’s playing: Primal from his first album with Pete Locket.

Why: I find the track very interesting. There’s energy in the rhythm and the drumming.

How many times he has changed his caller tune: This is the first caller tune I have, and I am really lazy when it comes to these things. This will remain my caller tune for some time, I guess.

Bappi Lahiri

What’s playing: Tennu le, composed by his son Bappa for Jai-Veeru.

Why: It’s Bappa’s first hit song. It’s become the most famous discotheque song in India and all over the world!

How many times he has changed his caller tune: Every time a new song composed by me becomes a hit, I make it my caller tune. My next caller tune will be from my Bollywood film Rocking Dard-e-Disco or my Tollywood film Rehmat Ali.

Kaushik Ganguly

What’s playing: The instrumental version of Aaoge jab tum from Jab We Met.

Why: I like this song a lot because it has the same meter as the track Bhola jaay na from my film Jackpot, which was sung by Nachiketa. I would listen to Aaoge jab tum while editing Jackpot.

How many times he has changed his caller tune: Around three-four times. Since I don’t get to listen to my caller tune, I forget to change it.

Rupam

What’s playing: Hashnuhana from Fossils on one phone and Bhoot ar Tilottama from Fossils 3 on another.

Why: Well, Hashnuhana because it was great fun to know that my song was available as a caller tune and I wanted to celebrate it. My wife Rupsha sets the caller tune on my other phone. Bhoot ar Tilottama is her favourite song.

How many times he has changed his caller tune: Hashnuhana is my first caller tune, but Rupsha keeps changing the songs on the other number.

Riingo

What’s playing: Prithibi anek boro from his film Love.

Why: It’s a good song and it’s the best way to spread it among friends. Now a lot of my colleagues have this song as their caller tune.

How many times he has changed his caller tune: I am waiting for my film Jodi Ekdin to release. I might have one of the songs of Jodi Ekdin as my next caller tune.
