Music man Amit Trivedi has collaborated with Amitabh Bachchan to score the title track of the superstar’s new TV show Aaj Ki Raat Hai Zindagi, premiering tonight. A t2 chat.

What was the brief for the track?                                                                                                                                                
The brief was given directly by Bachchan saab. It was his brief… his idea… his vision… his plan… I have just executed it. It’s a track that is mostly his… I have just co-composed it with him. 

We know that you are a huge fan of his. Was it a fanboy moment in the recording studio with him?                           
Oh yes! Who isn’t an Amitabh Bachchan fan? (Smiles) Doing with him what I have been doing all these years… that is, making music… was magical. Woh mera kaam kar rahey thhey (laughs). It was a beautiful feeling… I was just observing him… chatting…. I spent some quality time with him. 
It was quite surreal jamming with him. It was a unique experience on its own because till today, I haven’t really collaborated with anyone to create music. And when I did, it was with none other than Mr Bachchan! It can’t get bigger than that.
When he heard the track, he called me and said: ‘It’s good to go’. And I was like: ‘This was so easy?! Anyway Sir, thank you very much!’ (Laughs) 

You also composed a song called Bachchan as a tribute to him in the 2013 film Bombay Talkies…                                 
Oh yes. When he heard it, he was like: ‘I feel very shy… meri itni taareef mat karo!’ (Laughs) I had created the track for one of the four films (Murabba, directed by Anurag Kashyap) in Bombay Talkies in which he played himself. 
You have Shaandaar releasing on October 22, for which you have scored the music…
Shaandaar and Aaj Ki Raat Hai Zindagi are like a double bonanza for me. I am looking forward to both the dates — October 18 and 22. I am always nervous before the music of my film comes out… I just hope no one trashes it!

 

No one trashes your music!                                                                                                                                            
I have been lucky so far (smiles). But as an artiste, kab kya badal jaaye maloom nahin. People’s tastes change everyday. 

And finally, can we see a little more of Amit Trivedi the recluse?                                                                                
That’s the way I am, ya! I am not social media friendly. Mera thoda sa woh problem hai. And my job is for your ears… why do you want to see my face? (Laughs)
