Don’s daughter: Aparajita Ghosh Das shoots for debutant Arin Paul’s film 10:10, which stars German model Claudia Ciesla. “I play a don’s daughter who plans to elope with her boyfriend,” revealed Aparajita, in between shots at Baruipur Rajbari. Her father is Soumitra Chatterjee and boyfriend is Subrat Dutta. “I had done a telefilm with Soumitrada earlier. Though he doesn’t give me acting tips, it’s a great high sharing screen space with him,” smiled the petite actress. Picture by Aranya Sen |
Tagore will take on the saas-bahu serials in a TRP tussle on Tara Muzik from end-September.
Filmmaker Raja Sen is currently shooting the special Puja programme on Rabindranath Tagore, Tarei Khunje Berai, conceptualised as a serial.
“The idea is to educate the young generation about Tagore and his work through a dramatised format. There are several college-goers who aren’t aware of Tagore’s contribution to literature. The programme is not even remotely close to what we see on TV these days, which are poor copies of Star Plus serials,” explains Sen.
Tarei Khunje Berai has newcomer Subhra Roy as protagonist Jhulan who comes down from London to live with her uncle (Barun Chanda) in Calcutta after her boyfriend dies in a bomb blast in Pakistan. Jhulan finds a friend in her new neighbour Ashok Kumar, a Tagore loyalist who hums his tunes every morning.
“Jhulan doesn’t know who Tagore is. Ashok makes her aware of the Nobel laureate and the two go and watch the play Raktakarabi. She develops an immediate liking for Tagore,” adds Sen.
The cast includes Papiya Sen as Jhulan’s aunt, Pijush Ganguly as a theatre director and Kanchana Moitra as a stage actress.
Predictably, Tagore tunes will fill the air in Tarei Khunje Berai. “We’ve already recorded more than 40 Tagore songs. Indrani Sen, Rezwana Bonya Chowdhury, Debarati Shome, Supratik Das and Aditi are doing the playback,” says Sen.
