Sights & sounds: Cheerily draped in fairy lights, beer bottle chandeliers and a 2011 ice sculpture, the mood was retro at this VIP Road club. The five-member band Melody Street opened the night with Bollywood oldies like haseena zulfon waali, moving on to the peppy notes of Bijuria and Main tera dhadkan teri. The hour before midnight had the Skydrome packed to capacity with singer Debojit setting the groove, backed by dance troupe Aby Baby. Om Shanti Om, Rock On, All Is Well and Tees Maar Khan gave the crowd enough to be on their feet.

Sip & bite: Jodhpuri Mirchi Pakodi, Masala Paneer Finger, Tandoori Pomfret and Chilli Liver got washed down with classic cocktails like Gimlet, Martini, Little Sparrow, Caipiroska and Mojito. The dinner buffet boasted of Indian faves like Fish Tawa Masala, Dum Ki Methi Aloo and Pulao, plus a smattering of Chinese specials like Fish Balls in Schezwan Sauce and Noodles.
Fashion quotient: Shrugs and dresses in classic black or white and animal-print tops garbed the PYTs. The elder lot kept it traditional with shimmery chiffons in pop colours and anarkalis in jewel tones. Young boys teamed their denims with tight shirts, tees and jackets.
Midnight moment: As soon as Debojit started his countdown to 12, tight hugs and kisses were shared. Jeene ke hain chaar din had a lot of sing-alongs. Phones were abuzz and wishes exchanged aloud. Exotic dancers took over soon after.
Clubspeak: “Since this is a family club there were parents and kids partying together. About 1,200 people gathered here tonight and the dance floor was always packed. This party definitely was a resounding success and we hope to see more in 2011,” said Suman Mukherjee, assistant general manager.
Revellerspeak: “This is a really cool party — we are like a big family and most importantly we feel safe here. Our 16-year-old daughter is dancing with her friends, and my husband and I are having a great time too,” gushed homemaker Bhavna Agarwal.
