Dus Bahane singer Shaan is here with a new romantic ballad, Main Tujhko Yaad Karta Hoon. Even as his recreated song from Baaghi 3 is making waves, the new single shot in Goa has already been viewed 12 lakh times since release on February 21. Sharing the song’s link with his followers, Shaan wrote on Instagram: “And the wait is finally over ..I dropped my first romantic track of 2020.” The song, Shaan said, is an ode to love that stays with one forever.

Here’s a chat Shaan had with The Woods amid the single’s promotions.

Why a single?

Why not? I keep composing songs. This one was a more simple, straight-from-the-heart effort, since it’s more lyric-centric. Friends seemed to relate to this song, so I thought let’s put it out.

We really miss you from the mainstream these days. Why are you away?

You don’t miss me enough I’m guessing, or at least friends from the fraternity don’t miss me enough. But there are some big songs in the pipeline. Dus Bahane is the biggest song currently, even if a recreation, my voice has been retained.

We haven’t seen much of playback from you? What happened?

Don’t really know what happened. But every now and then a new generation of singer(s) take over the scene. It happened when I came in the late ’90s. And I’m happy to be around in 2020. Can’t complain.

Do you think remixes have overpowered the music industry?

There must be some business sense for music companies to constantly create re-creations. It’s working. Why else would they keep making recreations when it’s getting so much flak on social media.

Do you think creativity is at an all-time low now in the industry?

No, creative consumption is at an all-time low. Audience perception of music as a creative art is at an all-time low. But it’s cyclic.

What is the reason behind low retention of a song these days?

Too much, too soon, too easily.

Do you think the music industry will again see the golden years?

These are the golden years for the music industry. Consumption is at an all-time high. Music, though, has seen better times before. You cannot expect great quality from mass production and mass consumption. It’s up to the big players to step down and give creativity priority over business, which is a tough call.

There are endless talents these days. Who among the current crop of singers do you think will be able to survive for long?

Whoever stays positive, keeps growing and keeps a steady head on his/her shoulders.
