San Diego Comic-Con Day 3 & 4: MCU’s Wakanda Forever to DC’s Black Adam with Dwayne Johnson

The final two days of Comic-Con 2022 in San Diego surprised fans with a series of first-look teasers, trailers and announcements

The final two days (days 3 & 4) of San Diego Comic-Con were full of surprises for Marvel and DC fans as they were given access to brand-new teasers, trailers and announcements from star-studded panels discussing their favourite films and series.

San Diego Comic-Con concluded on a high note on Sunday with fans getting a glimpse of their favourite superheroes at Hall H. Here are the highlights:

Black Adam

Since his days in WWE, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has had a knack for big entrances and he did the same at San Diego. Johnson arrived in Hall H wearing his costume from Black Adam and standing on a platform that raised him high as video lightning and some fog effects surrounded him.

The 50-year-old actor and his fellow cast members briefly discussed the highly-anticipated film before releasing a special Comic-Con teaser trailer. In the new trailer, Black Adam narrates his back story and explains why his powers are not a gift, but a curse. Black Adam will hit theatres on October 21.

Shazam! Fury of the Gods

Before Black Adam’s arrival, the cast of DC’s Shazam! Fury of the Gods also dropped by Hall H to promote their upcoming film. The story of this film takes place a few years after the events of Shazam!.

The new trailer reveals that the Shazam family is unknowingly stealing the power of the gods. Atlas’ daughters, Hespera (Helen Mirren) and Kalypso (Lucy Liu), want their powers back, and they won’t hesitate to kill Shazam and his family to make that happen.

House of the Dragon

Author George RR Martin and the cast of the Game of Thrones prequel, House of the Dragon, discussed the upcoming show at Comin-Con.

Set hundreds of years before the events of HBO’s popular show GOT, House of the Dragon depicts the glory days of the ancestors of House Targaryen.

Paddy Considine plays the kindly King Viserys, while Matt Smith is cast as his ambitious brother Prince Daemon, and Emma D’Arcy his only child Princess Rhaenyra.

The cast, along with the show creators, also released a new extended trailer of the prequel at Comic-Con.

The Star Trek Universe

The Star Trek Universe panel had a lot to share at Comic-Con. The most enticing teaser was for Star Trek: Picard’s third and final season, which will reunite Patrick Stewart and Brent Spiner with their Star Trek: The Next Generation co-stars — Jonathan Frakes, Marina Sirtis, Michael Dorn, LeVar Burton and Gates McFadden.

There’s also going to be a crossover between Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and Star Trek: Lower Decks!.

The Sandman

Netflix had a big Hall H panel of its own for its upcoming live-action adaptation of DC’s The Sandman, with comic series creator Neil Gaiman as the co-showrunner.

The cast, along with the creators of the show, dropped the trailer and fresh footage from the show. Fans of Gaiman’s cult comic series of the same name were enthralled by the panel discussion.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe

As expected, Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige announced a host of new movies and series for the present and upcoming phases of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

She-Hulk

The new trailer of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law was released by Marvel which is set to premiere on August 17 on Disney+. The trailer establishes that the title character, Jennifer Walters (Tatiana Maslany), does not want to be a superhero despite the efforts of her famous cousin Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo).

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

The trailer of the new Black Panther film was also released by Marvel Studios. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever carries the real emotional weight of the untimely demise of Chadwick Boseman.

In the trailer, Wakanda mourns the death of T’Challa. But there won’t be a lot of time to mourn as Wakanda faces a threat from the underwater kingdom led by Namor (Tenoch Huerta). Someone must succeed the late T’Challa and become the new Black Panther for the sake of Wakanda. The film is set to release on November 11.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever marks the end of Marvel’s Phase 4 films, but only the beginning of The Multiverse Saga. The Infinity Saga comprised three phases of Marvel movies, and the same is true for this one as well. Feige then revealed all of Marvel’s Phase five projects.
