Spicy and savoury with lots of besan and ghee — the flavours of Swad Kesariya seem to have wafted in from faraway Rajasthan at Ivory Kitchen on 22 Camac Street. Decked out in the traditional Rajasthani bandhni fabric, the restaurant is hosting the Swad Kesariya festival till December 15, with both vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes designed by executive chef V. Narsimha Rao.

You have coolers like Masala Chaas (spicy buttermilk), starters like Mirchi Ka Wada (deep-fried potato-stuffed chillies) shorbas like Makai Ka Raab (corn stew) and main course items like Tukkar Murgh (a dry chicken preparation with a hint of asafoetida) and Laal Maas (hot and spicy lamb). Not to forget the famous sweet dish Choorma Laddoo.

Did we miss the quintessential dal-baati-churma? Yes, it is there! “It is a Rajasthani parallel of the machher jhol-bhaat Bengalis have almost daily,” said chef Rao. A meal for two comes for Rs 1,200-plus.
