How Vidya was ‘bold’ out

Vidya Balan is an unhappy woman because she is missing out on all the adulation Soha Ali Khan has been getting for Sudhir’s Mishra’s Khoya Khoya Chand. Soha plays a top Bollywood actress of the 1950s and 1960s called Nikhat and for that she dressed up in every possible get-up of the era — from Nadira’s Aan look to Meena Kumari’s Saheb Biwi Aur Ghulam look. Vidya was first offered the film when it was still called Bahut Nikle Mere Armaan. But she, we overhear, had reservations about a lot of scenes in the film, most of which involved getting up close and personal with co-star Shiney Ahuja. As Vidya started questioning Sudhir about those intimate scenes, he politely asked the Parineeta actress to get lost. Why? Because no one questions Sudhir! So, exit Vidya; enter Soha. And Sharmila Tagore’s daughter was all too happy to do exactly as Sudhir Sir told her to. Nikhat, she claims, is a bold character. How bold? Ask Vidya — as she eats her heart out.
